Dementia Communication

  • Hart Senior Center 915 27th Street Sacramento, CA 95816 United States (map)

The ability to effectively communicate is often compromised for individuals living with dementia. As verbal abilities decline, non-verbal communication becomes more pronounced and can be confusing for the caregiver to understand.

Dementia has its own language and understanding it can help reduce stress for both yourself and your loved one. Traditionally called “dementia behaviors”, this workshop will cover how to connect a behavior with an unmet need the person with dementia is trying to communicate. Strategies will include how to deal with distressing situations such as wandering.

To RSVP to this FREE workshop please email Stephanie Wilson City of Sacramento, Triple-R Adult Day Program at swilson2@cityofsacramento.org.

If you need someone to care for your loved one so that you may attend, free in home care may be available. Please indicate your need for respite upon registering.
