For most of our workshops, limited in-home respite is available. If you need someone to care for your loved one so that you may attend a class, please indicate your need for respite upon registering.

Yvonne Speers, MSW, Program Coordinator with Kaiser Alzheimer’s/Dementia Program will provide information and tools for non-pharmacological behavior management for persons with dementia. Learn practical tips to increase your skill-set for dealing with challenging behaviors. Ms Speers will help you better understand the reasons your loved one may be exhibiting certain behaviors and offer practical solutions. Join us to problem solve some of the challenges you are faced with.

A series of FREE workshops for caregivers. The primary goal of this seven-week series is to provide encouragement and practical support to family caregivers. Each class will introduce you to basic information and techniques that will be of immediate use to you in your caregiving role.

July 1st  – Caring for the Caregiver. Manging self-care when caring for someone else. Presented by Renee Chevraux, MSW

July 8th  – Communication & Behaviors. Learn effective communication techniques when dealing with challenging behaviors. Presented by Barbara Larsen, MA, Ed.

July 15th  – Understanding the Aging Brain. Understanding how stroke and dementia affect the brain. Presented by Kathleen O’Dea, SLP

July 22nd  – Taking Steps for Advanced Planning. Emphasis on the importance of advance legal and financial planning. Presented by Valerie Logsdon, Elder Law Attorney & Renee Chevraux, MSW

July 29th  – Community Resources. Learn the resources available and how to connect to them.  Presented by Susan Stratman & Sara Morrison, Helpline

August 5th  – Body Mechanics. Become familiar with safe transfer techniques and their importance. Presented by Nancy McAtee, PT

August 12th   – Nutrition & Incontinence. Learn more about the importance of good nutrition for the elderly, and a discussion of incontinence and its impact on both the individual and the caregiver. Presented by Kelley Kull, RD & Theresa Thomas, RN, ET
