25 Years and Beyond

It is with great pride that I announce the 25th Anniversary of Del Oro Caregiver Resource Center. Del Oro has provided a single point of entry for families to access a comprehensive package of services, education and support, tailored to the individual needs and diverse demographics of family caregivers. I received the following thank you note from one of our dear clients that truly encapsulates why we exist:

"I thank Del Oro for teaching me about self-preservation for the sake of my loved one. The gift of respite care allowed me to start attending workshops and I finally understand why I need to take care of ME.”

Our mission—to improve the well-being of family caregivers throughout their journey—has been a lofty goal, although one we have joyfully mastered over the years.

Unfortunately, it will likely be a rough ride for California’s Caregivers as Governor Jerry Brown released his proposed FY 2012-13 budget in early January, calling for the elimination of funding for our statewide system of Caregiver Resource Centers (CRC). There are many steps ahead before a final determination is made on the Governor’s proposal. WE NEED YOUR HELP! Please locate your local legislators by visiting http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/yourleg.html and entering your zip code. Please call, FAX or email your representatives and ask them:

Please DO NOT eliminate state funding for the California Caregiver Resource Centers. Please leave them as a line item on the budget (Item 4440-11-0001).

Tell your representatives your caregiving story and the importance of the relationship you have with Del Oro. The CRCs have been cut by 83% in the past 4 years and have less money now than we opened our doors 25 years ago. We appreciate your support, and want to remain in the community to serve family caregivers for decades to come.
